Our March Rituals & Rhythms

Welcome to Autumn in Australia, or Guyumbu / Mullet Season in the Bundjalung seasonal calendar. March is the month when finally it feels like the year has begun in earnest and we’ve hopefully settled into a bit of a rhythm again. We hope you find your flow this month.

What we’re doing:

  • It’s easy to start the year with big dreams and ambitions, and to then race through the weeks chasing those dreams. This year, we’re reminding ourselves to dream big, but to also find the moments of stillness to rest, refuel and reset. Our new weekly ritual is to attend a tea ceremony at Cloud Hidden. Like stepping into a centuries-old Japanese tea room, Cloud Hidden gently whisks you away from everyday life and provides a moment of reflection and stillness.

  • One of our favourite events of the year, the annual Ocean Film Festival returns to Byron Shire on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 March. Held at Brunswick Picture House this year, grab a ticket to immerse yourself in three hours of films about all things ocean.

  • March is B Corp Month! As a proud Certified B Corporation since 2019, we love the opportunity to meet other local B Corp businesses or people interested in becoming a B Corp. To kick-off B Corp Month, Stone & Wood Brewery is hosting a community gathering for anyone interested in meeting other likeminded individuals and businesses. Friday 7 March, 4-6pm at the brewery. Everyone is welcome.

  • March is also the last month of daylight savings in NSW making it the perfect time to get down to the Byron Twilight Markets held every Saturday from 4pm at the Railway Park. Our top pick is the Balinese food stall for your Saturday night dinner. So yum!

  • Local iconic artist, Zion Levy Stewart, is exhibiting at the Tweed Regional Gallery in Murwillumbah until 4 May 2025. Describing himself as an artist with Up Syndrome (generally called Down Syndrome), Zion’s vibrant paintings and ceramics capture the natural and human residents of the Northern Rivers and beyond. Zion’s painting of Thor and Chris Hemsworth at Wategos Beach was purchased at a local fundraiser by Hemsworth himself. We can’t wait to see what new works Zion will be exhibiting.

  • ICYMI, this year’s Bluesfest is set to be the last Bluesfest ever! If you’ve always wanted to head along, this is the year to go. Our top picks of the line-up are local artist Budjerah, Miss Kaninna, and the iconic Chaka Khan. Bluesfest will be held over the Easter long weekend in April, so now is your time to get your ticket!

  • You know we love to give you a little nature recommendation each month. This month, we recommend heading a little south of Byron Bay to beautiful Boulder Beach near Lennox Head. Head to the southern headland to explore the rockpools or find a shady spot above the rocky shoreline.

  • Rounding out the month, we’ll be heading to the Beach Hotel in Byron on Sunday 30 March to catch a free gig with Nai Palm. Famous for being a co-creator of the indie group Hiatus Kaiyote, Nai Palm is touring the solo album she wrote during a sabbatical in the Australian desert. We think it will be the perfect end to a weekend at the beach.

What we’re reading:

We’ve just finished the first book in Deborah Levy’s three-part living autobiography, Things I Don’t Want to Know, an exploration of the writing life of a woman. We might have to paint our nails to match each of the books in the series. Book 1 is giving Kombi vibes.

What we’re listening to:

We’re cooking and eating to the weekly Dinner Music playlists curated by Jacqui Devaney. Each week, Jacqui updates the playlist with a new selection of songs to cook and eat to, accompanied by a little breakdown of the background story behind that week’s selection. Jacqui even provides some meal suggestions in case you’re a bit stumped at what to cook.

All the best,

The Sienna team
